Expertly Traveled (expertlytraveled.com) is a personal travel blog. This policy explains what information is collected from visitors, how it’s used, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email hello@expertlytraveled.com.
Information We Collect
Comments. When you leave a comment, we collect the name and email address you provide, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string, to help detect spam. Your name (but not your email) is displayed publicly alongside your comment. An anonymized hash of your email address may be checked against the Gravatar service to see if you’re using it; Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved, your profile photo (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience the next time you comment. These cookies last for one year. If you visit our login page, WordPress will also set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it’s discarded when you close your browser.
Affiliate and outbound links. Expertly Traveled participates in affiliate marketing programs (see our Disclaimer page for full details). When you click a link to a partner site – a cruise line, booking platform, gear retailer, or insurance provider, for example – that site may set its own cookies or collect its own data to track the referral. We don’t control and aren’t responsible for those third parties’ data practices; we’d encourage you to review their privacy policies directly.
Analytics. We do not currently use a third-party analytics tool (such as Google Analytics). If that changes, we’ll update this policy to describe what’s collected and how to opt out.
Contact. We don’t currently have a contact form on the site. If you email us directly, we retain that correspondence as part of our normal email records.
Newsletter. We don’t currently collect email signups for a newsletter. If we add one, this policy will be updated to describe what we collect, how it’s used, and how to unsubscribe before that feature goes live.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to display and moderate comments, prevent spam and abuse, and respond to inquiries sent to our email address. We don’t sell visitor data.
Embedded Content
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos, Instagram posts, or similar). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you visited that other website directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that site.
Who We Share Data With
We use Hostinger as our web hosting provider, which processes site data as part of providing hosting services. We share data with affiliate networks only in the indirect sense described above (they see referral traffic from their own links, not data we hand over). We do not sell or rent visitor information to third parties.
How Long We Retain Data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in a moderation queue. Registered users (currently just site administrators) can also see and edit their own personal information at any time.
Your Rights
If you’ve left a comment on this site, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you’ve provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you – this doesn’t include any data we’re obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International Visitors
Expertly Traveled is run from the United States. If you’re visiting from outside the U.S. (including the EU/UK or California), your information may be processed in the U.S. We aim to honor reasonable data access, correction, and deletion requests regardless of where you’re located – email us and we’ll do our best to help.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site grows (for example, if we add analytics, a newsletter, or a contact form). We’ll update the “last updated” date above when we do.
